From Russian Anzacs in Australian History:
When mutual acceptance grew, however, mateship was highly valued on both sides, something a number of Russians have attested to. [...] Nicholas Evert, who started his service with the 9th Machine Gun Company, was transferred to an infantry battalion in England. He argued in his appeal to rejoin his original unit, ‘I take great interest in Machine Gun work and wish to rejoin my friends’. Speaking about friends he meant Australians — there were no other Russians in the company at the time.
