From Russian Anzacs in Australian History:

There was also a small group of men with service in the Russian navy and adventurous lives behind them, of whom Alfroniza Morozoff (from Odessa) was, perhaps, typical. Morozoff had deserted from the Russian naval ship Gromoboi when it visited Australia to take part in the celebrations for Federation in 1901. He changed his name to Jack Morris and by the time of his enlistment in the AIF was working as a bridge carpenter at Bunyip Swamp in Gippsland, Victoria.
