General Commentary

• In the binary sequence hexagram 33 pairs with hexagram 31.

This pairing overall reflects a focus on 'enticement', be it through the intense 'wooing' of 31 or the trickary of drawing in the enemy etc reflected in 33.

• In the binary sequence hexagram 33 opposes hexagram 19.

This pairing reflects a basic difference in (a) approach (19) and (b) withdrawal (33). That said, both perspectives share a focus on there being something 'behind' these actions. Thus 33 reflects trickary, a focus on drawing in the enemy. As 19 covers the inferior approaching the superior, in 33 we have the superior 'retreating', distancing, themselves from the inferior. That REACTIVE nature is turned into being PROACTIVE through enticing the 'enemy' into one's own context and so to one's advantage.

At the LOCAL level we are dealing with an octet of hexagrams with the MOUNTAIN trigram as base. In this sequence the exaggerated sense of trickary/retreat in 33 is reflected in a more balanced format through the levelling-out (and so make things more 'fair') reflected in 15.
