11 Peace
Harmonising, Balancing

In a context of perseverence we utilise trust

"T'AI : spread and reach everywhere, permeate, diffuse; communicate; great, extensive, abundant, prosperous; smooth, slippery; extreme, extravagant, prodigal. Mount T'AI in eastern China was a sacred mountain connecting heaven and earth. The emperor made offerings there to establish harmony between humans and the great spirits. The ideogram: person in water, connected to the universal medium."ERANOS p186

"[With perseverence comes trust] : [Balancing]. One uses wealth to help accomplish the path of Heaven and Earth. One uses encouragement to help harmoniously bring together Heaven and Earth. One uses the 'left' to 'right' the common people."

Class: Integrating

Commentary :

Cooperative Format : In hexagram 11, through perseverence one develops trust through harmonizing/balancing. A time not for recuperation but for consideration of the things we are about to start. (From the Judgement : "The small departs, the great approaches"). From the context - by correcting the past we make small gains and thus achieve a sense of balance and harmony.

Oppositional Format : The dark shuts out the light.

Structural Relationship (Being) : Hexagram 11 is the opposite of hexagram 12, in that 11 reflects harmonising as compared to neutralising; potentials as compared to perceived sterility; affirmation as compared to confirmation.

Temporal Relationship (Doing) : The goal of 11 is hexagram 46 (or 'how do I 46? - 11' How to get more entangled, push up? harmonise/balance things)

Five-Phase Relationships : The trigram of Heaven reflects Exchange (by opposition, competition). The trigram of Earth reflects Filtration (through belief, given rules). Exchange through Filtration is here expressed as being 'balancing', 'harmonising'.

11 is the goal of 16 (or 'how do I 11? - 16' How do I harmonise/balance? Use foresight, enthusiasm, planning)

Extended Commentary

Referring to the Quality Matrix below, the raw context from which hexagram 11 derives is described by analogy withthe under-exaggerated nature of hexagram 26, Holding Firm to 'something'. Once within hexagram 11, base level is described by analogy with the general, under-exaggerated, nature of hexagram 18, Correcting Corruption, in that hexagram 18 is linked to the bottom line of hexagram 11 and expresses the general concentration of a balancing-out. The development path of qualitative expression works up through the lines of hexagram 11 where at line 5 it is best expressed by analogy to hexagram 09, Small Gainings, where the intent of the development is to transcend but in a balanced manner. This 'balanced transcending'' need is finally transformed at the peak of the hexagram, line 6, into the expression of balance and harmony of hexagram 11.

Working with the Quality Matrix (column 2 above), the worst hexagram 11 can reflect is the general sense of 'holding firm' described by analogy to hexagram 26. The best hexagram 11 can reflect is the over-exaggeration of the assembly of many to celebrate harmony/balance - as reflected in hexagram 45.

The Traditional Single Changing Line Comments:
Line 1
"Removing the humble/small using one's class [ and therefore influence]. Unacceptable."
Line 2
"One needs to develop a sense of fairness, taking on the responsibility for the peasants[small] as well as distant friends[great]. Through this one tends towards honour and stability."
Line 3
"For one to succeed and experience peace, one must be forever watchful of the ebb and flow of things, by maintaining inner peace and using it to control the outer highs and lows. [keep things fair and be wary]"
Line 4
"One can manage ('P'ien' - flutter -> bustle about) the rhelm without the need to explicitly emphasize one's position and wealth. One can use neighbourliness over money; sincerity and trust over threat."
Line 5
"The ruler reinforces peace and fairness by applying rules to his own (great) besides the people (small)."
Line 6
"Between great and small the walls go back up. Peace is over, for by becoming too entrenched a degree of fate enters, and collapse reveals itself."

Transformative methods

By introducing this hexagram as context, you can change a state described by any other hexagram into a state described by hexagram 26. To make a state associated with another hexagram transform into this state, introduce hexagram 26 as context.

It is important to remember that, when using transformative methods, the more lines requiring change, the more energy required when attempting to introduce a different context. It may therefore be of benefit to work on existing changing lines and achieve your goal in steps rather than attempt, for example, a six-line change all at once.

Context as Push

To 'go with the flow', any hexagram that is changing into hexagram 12 reflects an influence of 11 on that hexagram in that the 'flow' is in hexagram 11 and as such this reflects the need to adapt to that flow and so take-on the properties and methods of 11.
