55 Abundance (Fullness)
|
"[With guidance comes awareness : Overflowing] One uses severe laws to enforce punishments."
Class: Integrating
Cooperative Format : In hexagram 55, once one has reached a peak, it follows that we head towards the down cycle. Here, tension is at it's peak pending a conscious release and these 'social outbreaks' need controlling - An arousing influence with guidance. In the image, current ideologies have led to an outbreak of crimes which need to be contained.
In the line comments, the continuing use of the term "Sun-centering", meaning midday, emphasizes reaching a peak. Hexagram 55 is the general form of hexagram 20 where the particular setting of an example reflects the reaching of a peak.
Oppositional Format : Hexagram 55 manifests thunder against fire.
Structural Relationship (Being) : Hexagram 55 is the opposite of hexagram 59 where 55 manifests overgrowth and so the possibility of obscuring things and 59 manifests the clearing away of obscuring, the dispelling of illusions. Overall the emphasis is on the diversity of things, the overgrowth that comes with harvest time such that the valued can become hidden, obscured by this overgrowth but also the diversity itself as demonstrating the reaching of a peak and over-exuberance.
Temporal Relationship (Doing) : The goal of 55 is hexagram 62 (or 'how do I 62? - 55') - how do I over-exaggerate traditions? focus on 'overflowing' with exuberance.
Five-Phase Relationship : The trigram of Fire reflects the distribution phase. The trigram of Thunder reflects the 'raw' production phase. The overall theme is twofold - (a) the distribution of production leads to abundance BUT it also reflects OVER-production - too much and so possible problems (just as there is too much 'good' so there will also be too much 'bad')
55 is the goal of 32 (or 'how do I 55? - 32' How do I 'overflow' with exhuberance? Commit)
Referring to the Quality Matrix below, the raw context from which hexagram 55 derives is described by analogy with hexagram 30. Once within hexagram 55, base level is described by analogy with the general nature of hexagram 56 - Loyalty in that hexagram 56 is linked to the bottom line of hexagram 55 and expresses the general focus on over-exhuberance. The development path of qualitative expression works up through the lines of hexagram 55 where at line 5 it is best expressed by analogy to hexagram 13 Likemindedness where the intent of the development is to over-integrate. This need is finally transformed at the peak of the hexagram, line 6, into the expression of overflowing with exhuberance etc.

The above Quality Matrix, where we work from the top down for hexagram 55, shows us the dynamics of 55 where the least it can do is described by analogy to hexagram 62, and the most it can do is expressed in the over-exaggeration of the properties described by analogy to hexagram 29.
The Traditional Single Changing Line Comments:
By introducing this hexagram as context, you can change a state described by any other hexagram into a state described by hexagram 30. To make a state associated with another hexagram transform into this state, introduce hexagram 30 as context.
It is important to remember that, when using transformative methods, the more lines requiring change, the more energy required when attempting to introduce a different context. It may therefore be of benefit to work on existing changing lines and achieve your goal in steps rather than attempt, for example, a six-line change all at once.
To 'go with the flow', any hexagram that is changing into hexagram 21 reflects an influence of 55 on that hexagram in that the 'flow' is in hexagram 55 and as such this reflects the need to adapt to that flow and so take-on the properties and methods of 55.
