60 Limitation
|
"[With self-reflection comes overcoming(Control) : Standardizing] One uses analysis to create standards and the right words in following one's path."
Class: Integrating
Cooperative format : In hexagram 60, self imposed limits are useful for development. they enable one to set reachable goals and to stretch the limits as well as set up standards by which one can compare progress. This form of discipline helps avoid possible obstruction and oppression. These limits are set from within (56,60) not from without (38,39). In the image, just as measurement standards are a form of limitation but beneficial, so is determining a 'best course' as one develops one's path.
These standardization processes imply the concept of staying and reasoning things out; to seperate and distinguish.
Oppositional format : danger against lake (reflection).
Template/Persona format : Contractive Bounding in a context of Expansive Binding. In a context of intense self-reflection/expression works an emphasis on control; we standardise things.
Five-Phase Relationships : The trigram of Lake reflects Exchange (through cooperation). The trigram of Water reflects Consumption. Exchange as cooperation feeding into consumption reflects the use of standards.
Hexagram 60 is the particular of hexagram 50. The process of transformation, of take the raw and 'cooking' it to be 'edible' is reflected in the particular expression of standardisation.
Goal of 60 - hexagram 29 (or 'how do I 29? - 60' - How do I contain/control? By establishing standards)
60 is the goal of 39 (or 'how do I 60? - 39' - How do I establish standards? By blocking the mindless flow of things)
The raw context from which the situation derives is generally described by hexagram 61. The raw nature of the base line position is described by analogy with 59 Dispersing/Clear Away/Dispel Illusions. The development path passes through line position 5 and its link to hexagram 41 Concentrating before being expressed in its purest form of hexagram 60.

Above.
By introducing this hexagram as context, you can change a state described by any other hexagram into a state described by hexagram 61. To make a state associated with another hexagram transform into this state, introduce hexagram 61 as context.
The introduction of standards leads to a sense of yielding, giving way from a particular to a general. Reciprocally, introducing a context of giving up particulars for generals will lead to the expression of standardisation.
It is important to remember that, when using transformative methods, the more lines requiring change, the more energy required when attempting to introduce a different context. It may therefore be of benefit to work on existing changing lines and achieve your goal in steps rather than attempt, for example, a six-line change all at once.
To 'go with the flow', any hexagram that is changing into hexagram 47 reflects an influence of 60 on that hexagram in that the 'flow' is in hexagram 60 and as such this reflects the need to adapt to that flow and so take-on the properties and methods of 60.
