In IC+ we have identified TWO sequences that reflect all aspects of a hexagram. The first sequence identifies the quality of the hexagram as an expression of energy in relation to all of the other hexagrams. This sequence is called the Horizontal Binary Sequence (h-s). It is to this sequence that we refer in the context of expression of a hexagram, its basic yin/yang characteristics as compared to all of the other hexagrams. As such the focus is on relationships BETWEEN hexagrams and so the GENERAL. The whole sequence reflects the range of qualities measured from 000000 (pure yin, hexagram 02) to 111111 (pure yang, hexagram 01).
The second sequence identifies the development cycle of a specific quality, showing its peak and the pre-requisite required to set the cycle off. This is called the Vertical Binary Sequence (v-s) and reflects a more temporal perspective (unidirectional and so not repeatable other than cycling through the full set of qualities). As such the focus in on relationships WITHIN a hexagram and the PARTICULAR.
It IS possible to identify 'temporal' patterns at the level of the GENERAL but they are reversible, representing a very mechanistic perspective and lack the 'tight', begin-end (and so irreversible) nature of time of the PARTICULAR.
The table you see under the heading "Internal Cycle" reflects the sequence of development of the particular hexagram over time using the other hexagrams as sources of analogy to describe state changes.
The table is a 'compressed' sequence of the 64 hexagrams into eight rows of eight hexagram numbers, starting with the number of the hexagram in question, bottom right, and moving up through the table, right-to-left, bottom-to-top where the last hexagram number at the top left represents the 'end' of the cycle and as such the pre-requisite for the cycle to loop down and start again, bottom-right.
The 'peak' of the cycle, the point where the quality is at its best, is represented by the hexagram that is second from the right, five rows up from the bottom.
