The emphasis in my version of the I Ching is that the I Ching manifests 'all there is' and this includes the influences on hexagrams that cause them to change into other hexagrams. This influence is, of course, another hexagram. In other words a context that causes change is described by a hexagram. Furthermore the nature of that context will determine the degree of change as well as the possible outcome. This possiblity is based on the amount of energy required to make the change.
If the characteristics of any particular hexagram are introduced as context it will work to change any other hexagram into a particular one. For example, introducing hexagram 02 as context will force any hexagram to change into a situation described by hexagram 23. There is a reciprical relationship to this. The reasoning is that the TOP line is the easiest, and so usually the first line to change.
This is NOT the same as "Context as Push" in that there the focus is on integrating with the context and so neutralising change by changing to what the context 'wants'. As such the focus is on the IDM Transformation Function as compared to seeking change where that is part of the IDM Transcendence Function.
