The colour coding reflects the 'root' FOUR qualities from which has emerged the above EIGHT. Thus from the basic, 'hard coded' into our brains, dichotomy anger/fear (fight/flight) comes anger/acceptance/rejection/fear and from that comes the above table entries.
Development in 'qualities' is from the vague elements of the far left column to the more refined, localised, elements of the far right column (and from there onto more complex forms, and so more complex symbolisms). Thus 'beneath' the trigrams are emotions, beneath them are the 4Bs, and beneath them are the I/D patterns rooted in our neurology and reflecting adaptation to 'out there' by internalising, reflecting, 'out there'.
Energy levels are mapped BOTTOM to TOP, and so from the energy CONSERVING to the energy EXPENDING.
We move from GENERAL to PARTICULAR such that DDD can be interpreted as:
'I differentiate, IN GENERAL, to differentiate such that I can differentiate in PARTICULAR."
DDI = "'I differentiate, IN GENERAL, to differentiate such that I can integrate in PARTICULAR."
The base sense of differentiating (top four rows) emphasises the assertion of context, be it through removing all competion by erradication or self-replication.
The base sense of integrating (bottom four rows) emphasises the adaptation to the local context, to 'fit in' and so 'coexist' with others.
The focus on differentiating leads to a focus on high precision, high energy expenditure. A focus on perfection and so concepts of purity and a sense of 'transcendence'. There is a 'point' sense of precision, but also a PARTS nature that is interpreted as if WHOLE. Differentiating means to take a whole and extract its parts prior to putting it back together. Our CONSCIOUS-NATURE does this and in doing aids in refining our instincts. (It reflects the acquring of a SPECTRUM of a whole). The high energy expenditure reflects a focus on clarity NOW and so a focus on maximising BANDWIDTH to get all information 'immediately'.
The focus on integrating leads to a focus on approximations in precision and so conserving of energy, focus is on context-sensitive quality over universal perfection. Precision is gained OVER TIME. As such there is a sense of 'transformation', learning instincts/habits to allow one to operate smoothly in ANYcontext - which is different to differentiating where the focus is to assert one's own context in any context! (a 'spacesuit' perspective). Integrating is ORGANIC in focus, HOLISTIC, and is reflected in our SPECIES-NATURE through the immediate, unconscious, interactions with reality using instincts/habits.
There is a noticable delay in our consciousness (about 0.5 secs) being aware of sensations our speciesness responds to - reflecting the notion of individual consciousness being derived from speciesness where there is a possible 'vague', more group oriented, sense of 'awareness'. Habituation removes the delay, in other words through consciousness we can refine instincts and once done we 'forget' what we have learnt and just 'react' ("use the Force, Luke"). This refinement process reflects the ability to derive models based on trichotomies where mediation is included as a category in the model rather than as a function to derive the categories, where once derived, the function 'dissapears' (as in we work off autopilot, instincts/habits and so the push of context - stimulus/response)
Trichotomous models reflect the development of consciousness to transcend 'stimulus-response' dynamics and as such these models reflect the activity of consciousness excluding reference to reality outside of consciousness. It is this 'frontal lobe' focus, and so exclusion of the roots of our being, our species-nature, that causes these models to fail when applied to the past.
That said, we can detect the possible source of the triadic perspective in the neuron, in the form of the soma that acts as a delay mechanism and where consciousness seems to have developed from that position where it too delays. Thus the soma as a part of the neuron dynamic allows for a rest period for the neuron to recover (re-uptake of neurotransmitters etc) but with inhibit/excite connections to other parts of the neurology so it takes on a more mediating role, allowing for synchronisations/de-synchronisations of firing activity etc., and as such introduces delay beyond just delay as a result of recovery - the delay is exploited. For a text covering this issue of delay, see Libet, J., (2004) "Mindtime" HUP.
Once a suitable stimulus-response dynamic has been established through stimulus/considered-response so the passage becomes 'mindless' stimulus-response but the mediation process has allowed for the 'refining' of the response and the better detection of differences in the stimulus. (analogy here is to mediation as a form of 'tuning' of an engine once all the parts have been put together)
The oscillations in the brain reflect mediation activity and so recursion of the WHAT/WHERE, differentiate/integrate, dichotomy. As novelty diminishes so brain activity will change processing to be more 'instincts' driven activity; in other words, once something is learnt, the initial dynamics involved in that learning 'dissapear' - reflecting the focus on conservation of energy over the long term through initial expending of energy over the short term.
Due to the recursion of the D/I dichotomy, so the elements of the dichotomy are distributed. Thus leadership etc comes in two main forms - from the front (leadership, pull) or from the back (management, push). The front type is self-centered, focused on refining skills etc The back type is others-centered, focused on working THROUGH the group rather than self - IOW identity is linked to the group outcome rather than self outcome. (In the MBTI this maps to CEOs, supervisors, auditors, umpires etc etc - there is a focus on security seeking with a values core; the more differentiating is biased to 'facts' over 'values'. The 'front' types map to MBTI types of trouble shooters, negotiators, warriors etc where the focus is on personal skill more so than what that skill is being used for)
Emotions are refined as we develop but form 'foundation' drives in individuals. Thus there are those 'driven' by issues of replacement through anger, skill refinement etc (DDD types). IOW each emotion develops into fine feelings that are both reactive and proactive (and which we talk about, derive stories etc where consciousness allows us to use our imagination to PRE-EMPT contexts, we learn skills prior to experiencing the context in which they need to be used).
Through analysis of IDM and on into the I Ching we find we can take the basic qualities given above and apply them to EACH quality in the set - we move from 8 qualities to 64, 64 to 4096, 4096 to 16+ million etc. With this refinement comes discovery of relationships of text/context in that, in neuron-dependent life forms, habits/instincts are encoded in the input areas of our neurons to allow context to PUSH us - reflects an overall, long term, focus on conservation of energy. As such STIMULUS is in the CONTEXT and instincts/habits encode the stimulus to elicit the 'preferred' response. These patterns of stimulus/response dynamics are encoded in the method of meaning derivation - recursion.
