Maintenance Advisory Service (MAS)

Supported by Reserve Personnel

The Maintenance Advisory Service (MAS) has three inspection teams, based in Darwin, Brisbane and Sydney. The teams conduct reviews of unit equipment at locations throughout Australia. The Darwin Team covering NT, SA and WA; the Brisbane team looking after QLD and the Sydney Team being responsible for NSW, VIC and TAS.

The MAS not only travels throughout Australia, but also deploys in support of operations. During 2004, the MAS deployed a reinforced team to the MEAO providing both a forward repair capacity and the traditional equipment inspection function. A similar deployment is scheduled for 2005.

The MAS requires the support of GRes equipment specialists to supplement the full-time team members. The MAS is interested in your trade skills and is willing to pay. Reserve personnel posted into MAS can be allocated up to 150 ARTD’s.

The MAS Secretariat has vacant positions in all states for Veh Mech, Fit Armt, Radio Mech, TES (G), and Fit Elec from the rank of SGT to WO1. Normally we will allocate you to one of the teams in your home location/State, but if we don’t have the trade coverage in the area, and you are available, we will fly you from Brisbane to Perth if necessary. All travel and accommodation expenses are funded by DTR-A.

If you are a Standby Reserve member and do not wish to be posted into a unit but would like to be involved, then you can be brought on strength by virtue of a DA 50 contract to complete specific MAS tasks.

Reserve personnel who wish to remain with their parent unit, but would like to be involved on an “as required basis”; can also be employed. The MAS Secretariat will liaise with the members unit and gain the necessary approvals. Reserve personnel interested in becoming part of a MAS team on an enduring or casual basis should contact the MAS Secretariat.

The MAS offers a real opportunity for you to retain your trade skills while providing a valuable service to Army. Being a member of MAS provides a valuable professional development opportunity. You can pass on this knowledge to your unit and it will also provide a solid foundation for subsequent career opportunities.
