John and Julia Rosewarne of Spring Valley, NSW

John Rosewarne and Julia Mann were married on 17 July 1847 in the parish church at Paul, Cornwall.  John, the son of a farm labourer, and was born in 1822 at Penolva in the parish of Paul. Julia, the daughter of a yeoman farmer, was born in 1817 at Castallack farm in the same parish. They emigrated to Australia with their infant son, Richard Henry, on the ship Julindur, arriving at Sydney on 4 April 1849.  They settled initially at Bargo, near Picton in New South Wales, and later moved to Spring Valley, near Lake George.

John died prematurely in 1861 after he fell from a horse while returning home from Goulburn.  He is buried in the Collector cemetery with his son Alfred who died of scarlet fever at the age of 9. After John's death Julia purchased a property at Spring Valley, where she lived until the 1890s, raising her children, and making ends meet as a small farmer.  She sold her property at Spring Valley in the early 1890s and purchased a house on the corner of Mundy and Coromandel Street in Goulburn, where she lived until her death in 1897 at the age of 80. She is buried in an unmarked grave in the Presbyterian section of the old Goulburn cemetery.
