Bromania

Grace Goode OAM

Bromeliad Garden & Home Nursery

Grace has named her home garden 'Bromania' and when you see the bromeliads you will understand why. The bromeliads have produced many success stories from these grounds both with friends and plants alike. It is the very famous breeding ground for one of the world's most renowned bromeliad hybridisers, a real perfectionist, in her own right. ( 'Smoky' will be in trouble for saying this.)

Grace is very caring and helpful, mixes well and enjoys a good joke and is always keen to tell one. She has many tales about bromeliads and the people from all around the world. Naturally her vast knowledge of the different Bromeliads and their specific requires goes without saying.

From books like Growing Bromeliads by the Bromeliad Society of Australia, Kangaroo Press, 1995. ISBN 0-86417-336-9. refers to Grace as "The foremost hybridizer from there (Australia) has been Grace Goode. (No Brag, Just Fact.) She has made about 150 crosses beginning about 1970."

People from all around the world often refer to her very impressive hybrids. These include comments from Dennis and Linda Cathcart Tropiflora web site in Sarasota Florida, "Neoregelia ‘Golden Grace’ This is a true little gem. An Australian hybrid by the famous Grace Goode." and from Bromeliads Online in New Zealand, "Neoregelia 'Midnight". A top quality Grace Goode hybrid, with deep wine red, almost black leaves when grown in good light."

Uncle Derek Says : I have known Grace for over 30 years and she has never been one to blow her own trumpet even though she is prepared to call a spade a spade.
There are others better positioned than me to write something on Grace and there have been articles in past newsletters and journals.
If you are after (a list of) Grace's hybrids all you need to do is go to the Bromeliad Cultivar Data Base and enter 'Goode' in the hybridist column and watch for the stream of names!
